BA IN MUSICAL THEATER
”NSKI College is a world class school. The training the students receive is first rate.”
- David Brunetti, Broadway vocal coach.
At NSKI University College, we educate musical theater actors by giving them what it takes to become performing, independent artists with their very own authentic expression.
By involving Method Acting in song and dance, the student are given a very special approach to communicating. You want to "own the song" because you use personal feelings and experiences to create the character's inner story. This means that the role is conveyed in a way that engages and excites the audience, making them believe in what they see and hear!
As a musical theater student, you get close follow-up from our skilled teachers who have a long career from musical theater industry both in Norway and internationally.
International actors are invited as guest teachers so we are constantly up to date with developments in musical theater, as well as creating an international environment.
You will receive a thorough introduction and training in each of the three disciplines that musical theater consists of: acting, singing and dancing, before they are put together into a holistic expression.
A normal day at NSKI is usually divided into two parts. Before lunch, we have so called morning classes were the main focus is on the technical subjects, and after lunch we focus on the project subjects. Most subjects extend over all three years.
Examples of subjects: Introduction to the acting subject, Movement, Sensory work, Individual singing lessons, Music theory, Dance, Musical and theater history and improvisation.
Examples of projects: Singing and Acting, Musical Comedy, Monologue and Physical Improvisation
Each spring, second-grade music theater, directing, and acting students travel to the metropolis of the world for a four-week project with The Cry Havoc Company, one of New York's oldest and most experienced Off-Broadway theater groups.
In collaboration with Broadway director Matt Cowart, the students will rehearse and put on a newly written, English-language musical. This will then be presented to American audience Off-Broadway!
With a bachelor's degree in musical theater from NSKI, you are qualified to work as a musical artist both nationally and internationally.
